Well, you’ve all guessed it by now….Roxy had her baby!! A beautiful, colored colt that goes by the barn name of Chester. We’ve posted our registered name choices, so get your votes in! Roxy foaled precisely on her due date, just a few minutes after the clock rounded midnight on the 16^th. When we checked her at 11:30 that night, she still had no wax and was resting for the most part, maybe a little pacing, but pretty much like the night before. So we headed back to the house and closed our eyes – only to wake up a few minutes later by the phone ringing off the hook. It was Buddy Ann A calling to say it might be time. So Bill ran to the barn – still no wax, no dripping, but lots of panting and grunting. While he was there Roxy’s water broke - or rather seeped - at about 12:05 and Susan also came down in a hurry. Good thing! Chester is adorable, opposite socks and lightening marks, Zippy's signature patch on his shoulder and one white tip on his right ear – so, so, so cute!!! We put a halter on Roxy and watched her closely, as we just had this sense that she might need help. Turns out we were wrong, but she certainly was exhausted - much more so than with other deliveries. Little Chester (in honor of Chris2) was trying to nurse Roxy's back hock while his back legs were still inside her, but then had a hard time finding the real faucet for a while. He certainly got the hang of it quickly though, and has been nursing well ever since. The way everything happened was very different than her other pregnancies – maybe because she’s never had a colt before?!? The vet gave them both a great report – good, strong levels for Chester, and a very healthy & speedy delivery recovery for Roxy. In fact, the vet who examined her couldn’t believe she had just foaled the night before!
