• June 22, 2005 - Buddy Bash and Farewell to Eve

The 2005 Buddy Bash and Open House last weekend was a big success! Thanks to everyone who attended, and to those who couldn’t make it, we look forward to seeing you next year! The weather was stellar all weekend and there were lots of activities, from live chat to roping with Bill to Chis2 trying to halter-train Reverse A Bull (a good attempt, but one halter was too big and one was too small!) Then we had a live demonstration with trainer Jack Curtis, whom we call the Wisconsin Horse Whisperer. Two days before the Bash, we had a new arrival to the farm – a 2-year old colt out of Zippy named Luke Warm that we bought back from the owners. You may have seen gorgeous Luke on camera. He’s never had a saddle on him, and in two hours right before our very eyes, Jack was riding him! All with gentle, natural horsemanship techniques. It was awesome. We finished the day with karaoke in the barn. On Sunday, everyone went to a polo match, courtesy of Buddy Sandy Y, whose son plays polo and donated the tickets. Thanks, Sandy! It was a great weekend.

This week’s big news is….Eve has been sold!! We thought we’d get offers for her right away since Zippy and Frosty just make great babies. With great foals like Eve, though, we secretly hope that they’ll just stay forever! She leaves on Friday for her new home in Anaheim, California.

Tux went to the vet last week for routine surgery to repair his hernia. This is a fairly common thing that happens after foaling and the surgery and recovery are quick. He was back home the same day and is doing great.

Bill had a great horse show recently. He got a second in keyhole, which gave him some points and also ended the day with Fanny as the Reserve High Point Games Horse. They won an embroidered halter. A trainer we work with, Andy, roped in the heading classes and Bill stuck with the heeling. Andy ended up not getting any points in the heading, but he did win the timed roping class out of 13 horses on Fanny. Bill caught well in the novice non-pro judged heeling class, which he really wanted to win. He caught both feet on his steer and thought he really might win. To his surprise, some others caught both feet also and edged him out for points. This is really unusual as usually only a couple of people even catch the steer at all! Oh, well, better luck next time!

Thanks.
