Saddlebrook Appaloosa Horses

• July 6, 2005 - Let freedom Ring!

Happy Belated Fourth of July, Everybuddy! We hope you all had a safe, enjoyable holiday.

Good news on the Penny front again. She was ultrasounded at 43 days and she’s still pregnant! The small black blob on the screen that was her pregnancy a couple weeks ago is now a little embryo about the size of half a thumb. We also saw the tiny umbilical cord and sack it’s attached to on the ultrasound too. We’ll check her again in another few months.

All the other Saddlebrook horses are doing well too. Luke had a little respiratory infection when he got here almost two weeks ago, and we had him on standard antibiotics. He responded very well and is feeling tip-top now. There was a commotion out back of the new building the other day, and it turned out to be Luke calling way over to some neighboring horses at the next farm over. He would call and run around snorting, then stop and listen, and they would all call back. It went back and forth for quite a while. The nearest other horses - Sandy, Roxy and the babies - were all nonplussed, in fact the foals were napping and the moms just went on grazing. But over across the way, all the fuss got Java’s and Penny’s attention. They were both pressed up against the fence on high alert, necks and ears straight up, wanting a piece of the “action.” You wonder what would happen if there were no fences out there!

We had a couple of visitors, Rosie and Sarah. Rosie is from North Carolina, and is up here visiting Sarah, who is a former horse trainer from Virginia who relocated to Wisconsin many years ago. Rosie found us on the web and soon joined the “Eve and Tux Lover’s Club!” We gave them a little tour, which was very interesting to Sarah especially, since Saddlebrook was one of the properties up for sale that she and her husband looked at when they first moved up here! She remembered what the original house looked like and recalled the other buildings that still stood here at that time.
