Saddlebrook Appaloosa Horses

• July 13, 2005 - Bobbina

A new mouser in the making has taken up residence at Saddlebrook! Her name is Bobbina, and she was given to us by the Buddies at this year’s Buddy Bash. Following in the tradition of Bob-named animals at Saddlebrook, Bobbina is a tortoiseshell (black with cream-colored splotches) farm kitty, with one cream paw and an adorable cream stripe down her face and nose. She is already showing her enthusiasm for chasing, clawing and biting, so we have great expectations that, when she’s old enough, she will join Bobcat and Bobble and complete our mouse-hunting team.

We’ve been working with the foals every day and they both have halters on now and lead pretty well. Chester seems the more cooperative of the two. Although it shouldn’t surprise us since Chester has been more approachable from the start. Matilda is very stubborn and if she’s not doing exactly what SHE wants to do, she’ll give you a hard time. That’s OK; a hard head is a double-edged sword because it gives a horse determination as well. Matilda is definitely determined!

If you haven’t already, check out the pictures of Squeakers and Luke on our website. We still need to get some better pictures of each of them, but at least you can get a pretty good idea of what they look like.

Bill made Maggie the Pig a new house, which is totally handicap accessible now. It’s on the lower floor of the in/out area of the big barn and the bottom is only about an inch off the ground, so Maggie doesn’t have to climb up any stairs or climb into her house anymore. It’s smooth sailing for our little arthritic piggie!!
