It doesn’t seem to matter how big Reverse gets, he is still going to be one of the most sweet and curious steers ever. Even Nabisco, who was handfed for his first three weeks, lost that affinity for people almost immediately after he was turned out to live in the pasture. Reverse loves to be scratched and rubbed, which inevitably leads to him licking your hand! Great day at the horse show in Sterling this past weekend. It started out with Luke winning the hunter in hand stallion class. Spice also did well getting a first and three seconds in the longe line class. It was looking grim at first as there didn’t look to be any other horses signed up for the class, but eventually we got enough to have the class. Spice did very well, considering she hasn’t really had a lot of practice (about two weeks.) She performed like a pro - no mistakes at all. The horse that won over all was the grand champion stallion from earlier in the day and the class takes 30% halter into account so he was a tough one to beat. Pharaoh came in the barn for a few weeks. He will keep Tux company when they are turned out in the arena each day. This way it will protect the old guy from the heat and allow us to really measure what and how much he’s eating – no nosy noses in the bucket with him! This will leave one pasture, the west pasture, without horses grazing it. We are hopeful that it will recover enough so that when we wean Mattie and Chester in a few weeks the moms can be turned out there to enjoy the fall months. That means that today we put Squeakers in the backyard pasture and all seems to be well. Penny is SO the boss that no one else would ever dare cross her. Voila! No challenges!
