Last weekend was another good show for the Saddlebrook horses. We started out the day with Tux in “Most Colorful.” There were eight horses in the class. Tux did well, getting one second and one third, and ending up with one and a half national points. Not bad for his first show. Spice also showed very well and finished around 6th out of 14 in the longe line. It started to rain right in the middle of the class. It didn’t seem to affect the horses much, but I think it made the judging a little harder. Spice cast herself in her stall yesterday and was looking a little colicky, so we called the vet. He had us give her some banamine to relieve any pain and help her relax. When the vet arrived, he ended up flushing her tummy with a water and mineral oil cocktail. She was probably fine by then but we wanted to be on the safe side. Usually horses will colic when their feed is changed or when they are at a show because of the different environment, but neither of those applied to Spice. Maybe it’s “Post-Show Stress Disorder!” We have another show coming this weekend. Not sure who we are bringing yet so wish us luck. If you haven’t seen already, we updated Chester’s page today so you can see some recent pictures of him. We think he is going to be something special – well built, very pretty head and oh so laid back. There is also a video of Luke in Hunter in Hand and Spice doing Longe Line which will be posted on their individual pages tomorrow. Thanks for watching. |
