Saddlebrook Appaloosa Horses

• September 7, 2005 - New News

All three kids are in school now and Grandma watches Drew when he gets home in the afternoon. So much time Bill just doesn’t know what to do first! This week he FINALLY got the mare barn painted. He also got the lawn cut and a few other maintenance items, like winterizing the old milkhouse for Delight and Reverse to share this winter. Yeah, we’ve decided to keep the little shaver. Reverse, of course, will be of no useful purpose whatsoever, unless you like wet sloppy cow kisses every day. Some would say that is a valuable commodity in and of itself, but some of us prefer to stay a bit drier than that!! And what a little hay burner he is going to be in a year when we just paid double for hay that isn’t even delivered yet. Oh well, he sure is cute : )

Bill also set up a new outside camera to see the pasture with the mares and foals. You can also see Tux and Spice when they are out. The moms and babies are now out full time on the grass. Soon we will be weaning the foals and then shortly after that we will bring Frosty and Cookie in to get used to the barn again.

Our boarder, Kate, got thrown off two of her horses twice in one week. Ouch! Mind you, she is an excellent horsewoman, but sometimes it’s inevitable. One was a young horse, but huge (she raises Dutch Warmbloods) and the other was her stallion. Kate is a real trouper, though, and was “back in the saddle,” training and doing chores the day after!
