• September 22, 2005 - Broken Barn

Chester and Mattie are getting bigger and stronger every day. Chester is really starting to outpace Mattie though; he is getting SO tall. They are both getting to be quite independent – we hardly see Chester nurse anymore and it’s becoming less frequent for Mattie too. Weaning time is just around the corner! We also noticed that Mattie has a couple of little white spots on that cute little dun butt of hers!! If her coat stays light, you will probably never notice them unless you’re close up, but Mattie is getting darker in some places. We’ll have to wait and see.

The insurance adjustor finally made it out last week to look at the barn. After waiting several days for him to come out, he spent all of five minutes looking around and then told us to get estimates and contact him again. Pretty anticlimactic. We have the rubble pretty well cleared away now and a temporary support beam in place to prevent any further damage from occurring before we get it fixed. A builder came out for an estimate and a masonry person is coming today to look it over.

We had a visit from our new friends the Wongs on Saturday. They had seen our website and horses on the internet and they had asked us if they could come and visit. Sure we said and so they took a nice weekend drive up from Illinois. It was the most perfect summer-like day, not a cloud in the sky. They brought carrots and apples for the horses, even dog and cat treats (just like Annie A) and everyBuddy loved it.

Just before the Wongs got here Bill sped down to the horse show to watch Luke. Buddies Deb, Gail, Ashley and Amy were all there to root him on. We were disappointed that there were only two horses in the class. Luke lost under all four judges, but showed well, even though he seems to be in a kind of a gangly growth spurt. The other horse was a real English looker, very nice. We will keep our fingers crossed for the world show. Luke is starting to gain weight so we hope he will be in good shape and fit by then.
