Saddlebrook Appaloosa Horses

• September 28, 2005 - Get them moving

Weaning time! We separated the foals from their moms last weekend and everyone is doing very well so far. The moms were put outside in the west pasture and the foals stayed in with each other. Chester and Matilda get along so well together, so things are going very smoothly.

Fanny and Spice now get turned out together in the paddock facing the new barn. Fanny was not happy at first, and Spice wasn’t taking the hint. But soon the grass became SO much more interesting to both of them! Tux is now out with the old guy, Pharaoh, and is enjoying himself over there. They share the in/out area at the big barn with Maggie the Pig, and are next to Java, Sandy, Roxy, and Delight and Reverse, too.

We got an update from Buddy Lee AZ, who is mom to Saddlebrook’s Lucy and Junior now. She let us know that they are both doing very well, which is great news especially in Lucy’s case. Lucy had a very serious health issue and we nursed her back to health about 18 months ago with a lot of help from many people. Now she is in a warm, dry environment with lots of TLC every day from Lee. Lucy looks very happy and that makes US happy!

We got the storm-damaged barn wall all cleaned up and have several estimates on the repair. The options are to build it with concrete block and wood again, a solid concrete wall, or replace the whole thing with metal and wood frame, including the door. This is the longest-lasting option we feel, but the most expensive one of course. The jury is still out.

Each evening geese and pairs of cranes are beginning to fly overhead.  The sound is so cool and yet, that means cold weather is just around the corner.

Thanks for watching,

S/B
