Hope Everybuddy had a great Halloween! Luke and Bill ended up fifth out of 14 in the Non-Pro Hunter in Hand at the World Show. Bill was very happy with it and Luke looked great. Bill talked to Elizabeth about her fifth place also. When you look at the score for Luke he had a second, two thirds and then two sixths. The judging was all over the board. We’ll need to look at the judge’s scores for Bill when they’re published and see how they came out.
The mention on the radio this morning of “wooly bears” caught our attention. This fall, we’ve had tons of these fuzzy little brown and black caterpillars all over the farm. Come to find out they are what eventually turns into a tiger moth. According to the old Farmer’s Almanac, they were used to predict what kind of winter was ahead based on whether their brown stripe was narrow or wide. Hmmm…if only we could remember what our looked like now! Anyway, they sure are cute. If you Google “wooly bear” you can see pictures and read more about them.
It was in the 60’s here today, so the weanlings spent the day in the back paddock enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. They and Spice and Fanny had lots of entertainment this afternoon. The hay guy was out working in the field, getting the final cutting before winter. Usually it’s done earlier than this but the dry weather really slowed down the growth. We’ll probably only get about 70 bales or so. It will have to wait until early next week before it’s dry enough to bale.
Bill and Cindy spent some time preparing for their meeting with the Mills buyer tomorrow. We hope to do a test with the BarnCams in about half their stores. Wish us luck!
