Mattie and Chester remind us lately a little of how Java and Kahlua used to be together. Does anyone remember Kahlua? Cookie was bred when we bought her and out came this sweet little dun filly in 2003 that we named Kahlua. Cookie’s former owners bought Kahlua back. Sandy had Java at the same time, so the two babies became weanling buddies. Kahlua was very sweet and dainty, and adored being brushed and handled. But whenever you started anything with her, Java would muscle right in, try to push her aside and say. “Hey, gimme somma that!” Just like Chester does with Mattie now : )

Java has been in the arena lately, and he really enjoys “cleaning” the window. It is just hysterical to see and HEAR this from the opposite side. His lips are all squished against the glass and he “squeegees” up and down and all around! It sounds like a very loud and squeaky window washer.

A couple of you have asked about when we are going to switch horses around. On or before December 1 we’ll bring Roxy in as well as Frosty and Cookie. Since Kate’s horses will be gone with her to Florida after the holidays we think we’ll keep Matilda and Chester together for the winter and put them in the church barn paddocks perhaps with their buddy Tux. Then all the young horses are there, their feed is similar and they will keep one another company. Frosty and Cookie will get ready for foaling, and our resident Senior Citizen Pharaoh will come in as well. Spice and Fanny will take the big west pasture where Frosty and Cookie are now and Java will be in his own paddock in the church barn area alongside the babies. We can’t believe how fast time is flying by!

We keep seeing Casper the stray cat around here the past couple of weeks. We’re sure with the weather changing he is looking for some nice warm place with lots of good food. He comes up on the deck every evening to check out Bobble’s bowl, but then runs for cover when we turn the lights on to get a better look. He (or she) is a striped dark gray tabby and seems to get along well with Bobble and Bobcat. If we can catch him (or her) he is going to lose his luggage or other related parts and then he can stick around as long as he wants. Hopefully he is fond of mice!
