Saddlebrook Appaloosa Horses

• December 14, 2005 - Hairs to you

Snow, snow and more snow!! 6” total by tomorrow. As soon as it clears up, Luke and Java will move over to the church barn paddocks. Luke will get a blanket of course, because he hasn’t had as much of a chance to grow his winter woolies as the other horses have. Java is as hairy as a Yeti! Tux will come over to the warm barn soon, so we can get him cleaned up and ready for his soon-to-be new owners. We got a call from them today, too. They wanted to find out what feed Tux gets and what size halter they would need for him, which tells us they are getting everything prepared well in advance for him to come and live with them. It’s a good feeling to know our little guy will be in good hands!

We have one fat cat, one happy dog and hardly any mice in the barn! Elvira (our senior citizen dog who refuses to sleep in the heated part of the garage so we put her in the warm barn for the winter) lights up whenever she sees Bobbina and then chases her down the aisle. Bobbina runs for cover, so we’re guessing by staying clear of Elvira, BB is spending more time showing the mice who’s boss!

The vet was here last week to give Cookie her ten month shot and to give Matilda and Chester their vaccinations. They recommend to re-do foal vacs after 6 months of age to make sure that the foal is covered. Foals accept the vaccine at different points around 4 months so they have you vaccinate babies both before and after that point. The shots went very well. Tux, who didn’t need a shot, decided he was missing something and kept butting into the middle of the others. We threatened to give him a shot, just so he would get out of the way LOL.
