Frosty has real wax tonight! Still yellow and thick, so this may just be the calm before the storm, or something like that. We will watch her all night, but I am thinking she will foal exactly one hour after the Little Ms and Buddy Jane arrive late tomorrow night! She has foaled during the day before, however, so all bets are off. She is quite still this evening, though, other than shifting her weight to relieve the obvious big load she is carrying. She ate her dinner slowly tonight but did clean it all up. Won’t be long now! Cookie’s No-Name Filly (soon, soon!) has the cutest coloring. Her spots are very black on the top of her back and they fade to a light brown as they go down her sides. She also has kind of a fake dorsal stripe. It doesn’t really go all the way down to her tail but her spiky little mane hairs go halfway down her back, creating the illusion of a stripe. Very stylish! It’s also hard to miss the loooong beard hairs she is sporting. Guess she will grow into them eventually, but for now they just collect bits of hay and shavings that hang down from her chin, lol! The little one is verrrrry energetic and playful! She and Cookie share the arena time with Frosty and Pharaoh – one pair gets turned out in the morning and the other in the afternoon. When Cookie and Filly have to wait until the afternoon, the little one gets so wound up, she nearly passes up mom on the way to the arena. As soon they get inside, the filly is a whirling dervish – running, throwing her heels up and leaping straight up in the air from a complete standstill! You can hear her little whinny as she lets loose – it sounds like “Weeee!!!” Brushing seems to relax Frosty and gets rid of all the loose hair that is now falling out like crazy. For you newer Buddies, it’s a very typical thing for mares to “blow their coat” as they approach foaling time. We were just delighted to get the following email from Eve’s owners! This one “takes the cake!!” (You’ll see why, heehee!) They just adore her and it looks like she is a spoiled princess: Hi Bill and Susan, My name is Robyn. I'm Mark's daughter (bought Eve). I just wanted to let you know that Eve is doing great and send you some pictures of her on her first birthday. Everybody at the stables loves her and thinks she's the sweetest. She loves to be petted and loves all the attention she gets. Congratulations on the new filly. We're always on the website looking at the BarnCams. Hope all is well out there and I will keep you posted in the future on how Eve is doing. Thanks, Robyn

We also received an email from a woman in Switzerland whose mare is bred to Zippy with exported frozen semen. This will be Zippy’s first overseas baby! Hello! I was on your homepage and saw your beautiful filly. It's really very special! My mare Natashka Kachina should foal within 7-8 weeks. We all are very excited and hope that everything will go well so that we have the first ZMI foal in Switzerland. It would be great if it'll be a filly, too. I'll send you some pics of it, immediately after birth.... I pray to my Lord, that the foal and the mare will be healthy. Take care. I'll talk to you soon. Marlise. We are looking forward to seeing the photos and will post them of course! |
