Saddlebrook Appaloosa Horses

• February 8, 2006 - Oh Boy!!!

Well, Buddies, we happy and tired, tired and happy.  Little Boy is perfect and Frosty is being her usual loving, excellent Mom – what more could we wish for?  It really is so wonderful to be there when they foal.  Frosty needed some reassurance and she knew what to do.  He is a big boy, so the labor was pretty tiring on Frosty and he didn’t slip right out like Phoebe did with two good pushes from Cookie.  Frosty worked at it, and you want to let a mare work at it (within reason) so they don’t get the idea that you will always be there to help and give up some day when you are not there at their side during birthing.  Frosty did just great.  She licked him vigorously all over and stood still while he explored the stall, the wall, the camera, the door latch, all looking for his first meal.  He finally got the right idea around 4:00  At 1:16 we determined he was a “he”, and although his back legs were not delivered yet while Frosty rested from her exertion, we are calling his birth at that time.  Today we will look over the eligible foaling contest time guesses and announce the winner as soon as possible.  We will also review the name suggestions, pick our list of finalists and get those posted in a poll for viewers to choose the little guy’s registered name.  Thank you all so much for sharing this with us, too.  We have met so many nice people this way and look forward to watching our new babies grow up together.
