Our Little Bob is doing really well. The vet was here to check both him and Frosty, and everyone looks great, very healthy. Frosty still has a lot of belly swelling, the edema that she developed during her pregnancy, so we will watch that carefully to make sure that it subsides. Little Bob passed his IGG with flying colors too. Kate’s Chris came out yesterday morning to feed and was surprised to see the foal. He slept right through the whole thing, even though we came and banged on his door last night at midnight!! He really wanted to see the foal being born and told us to come and get him even if we had to wake him up. Chris has been battling a cold and took some Niquil, then he dreamed that someone was yelling, “Frosty’s foaling! The baby’s coming!!” Heeheehee! That was no dream Chris!
While the vet was here we also had him check Penny and Luke because of the soreness they both showed this week. Luke is just fine but Penny showed an abscess near the coronet band on the back of her heel. Prescription is stall rest, so that’s where she will stay until it heals up. Actually, an abscess is one of the “best” things to find when a horse is lame. It is temporary and can be fixed fairly easily.
Out of the blue, we got a call yesterday afternoon from one of the anchors at Channel 12 News, one of the local Milwaukee television stations. He had heard about BarnCams, thought it would make in interesting story (of course!) and wanted to come out and do an interview for the evening news….THAT NIGHT!!! Well, it won’t air for a day or two, but they taped it last night. So, we ran around like mad making the barn, office and BarnCam manufacturing area presentable. Whew! Nothing like company coming to get your dusting done!! We’ll keep you posted on when the story is going to air.
And the winner of the 2006 Frosty Foaling Contest is…(drum roll please)………. Sandy Belcourt!! Sandy’s guess was January 8 at 1:08 a.m., so she came within minutes of the actual time. Stand up and take a Buddy bow, Sandy!
