Cindy T and Bill were busy getting caught up from the Midwest Horse Fair this weekend. There were lots of BarnCam orders to ship (woo hoo!) making one of the best shows ever in terms of sales. You wouldn’t have guessed that by how slow things were on Sunday, the last day of the show. There were more vendors than visitors in the aisles!
We also had horses there again and were very excited that the appaloosa horse club won the best stall and breed show competition this year at the Fair. The really great part about it is that stalls are assigned for next year based on how well you do this year, so we should once again be in a good location for next year. We were in Barn 2, which is close to the hall where our booth is and to the parking lot as well. Phoebe and Cookie were there this year and did their part in the arena for the breed demonstrations. Buddy NancyWI was there to help Bill. Thank you, Nancy! Phoebe managed to keep all four feet on the ground the entire time in the second demonstration, a feat that she wasn’t able to do the day before. It was her very first time away from home, so she was a little keyed up and when she first entered the arena she reared up a little. The crowd just loved it though!
Penny went to the vet’s last week to get bred and is home safe and sound. We will be checking her in 15 days as she ovulated two follicles and therefore could have twins. Dr. Schmidt was kidding us that he wanted to do an embryo transfer like he does for many of the other breeds placing those embryos in other donor mares to foal out the babies, rather then have the mares carry them. It is very expensive so we would not do this, but for many breeds doing this with a double ovulation/fertilization is a huge bonus. He doesn’t think there is any special care necessary with Penny either; he believes it has just been bad luck that she has not carried to term several times. Everything checks out very well health-wise.
