Saddlebrook Appaloosa Horses

• May 24, 2006 - Hat's off

Matilda’s cut is healing but she is still a bit sore on her leg so we took her to the vet to get x-rayed. Thankfully they found no chips or broken bones on that leg. She still has swelling there, kind of a big bruise on the front of her femur, which is the bone right below the hip. The vet said that she would still be sore some days and recommended that Mattie stay a little less active. The good news is that it should heal completely in time.

The farrier was here this week and trimmed up the moms’ feet and Fanny’s too. Spice was crazy the whole time, whinnying for her pasture Buddy Fanny. Fanny was like, whatever. Frosty tried to push the farrier’s hat off his head while he was bending down working on her feet. LOL! Phoebe and Romeo just wander around in the aisle while their moms get a pedicure. The farrier commented on how big they are getting and we couldn’t agree more. Weaning time is just around the corner.

Penny and Roxy were checked this week and good news - they are both still pregnant and doing well. The plan is to put Penny on Regumate at about 6 months along to insure that everything progresses well this year.

The kids entered their first horse show last week at Jefferson. All the lessons with Kari are starting to pay off and it turned out just great. It was a little cold, but Penny was just a dream. She was so easy to show and work with.  A BIG thanks to Kari, Gail, Ashley and Nancy who were all there cheering us on. The highlight of the day was Sarah taking a second in Western Pleasure and Drew winning a trophy for second in the leadline.  Joe decided to just watch the first time, but he is eager for the next one.
