Saddlebrook Appaloosa Horses

• May 31, 2006 - Back, Back , Back

The big excitement for today was that we weaned the babies from their moms. We just take the moms away quickly and don’t give them time to look back. It’s much less stressful for everyone. Cookie and Frosty were more upset than the babies at first, but everyone settles down really fast. Guess they were ready!

We put Matilda outside the other day even though it was raining off and on. With temps as warm as they’ve been a little rain never hurt anybody. However, there was one strong downpour in the afternoon and we felt sorry for Mattie so we ran out to bring her inside. (Five minutes later it was done and the sun came out of course!) Now if you don’t know this already, horses usually turn their backs to the direction the rain is coming from, probably to keep their faces out of it. Mattie was on the far side of the paddock and her putt was facing the gate - so she BACKED UP the whole way to get there! Too funny.

Now that Squeakers has been to the trainer and handled a lot every day, she is very  curious and friendly. Squeakers runs to the fence for some attention whenever someone walks by. And with her coat completely shed, you can see how pretty she is too.

Bill and Drew took Luke to the hauler this week. They met to transfer Luke so he can go to the trainer’s in Nebraska. It went perfectly as the hauler arrived at the exact same time they did.  Best of all Luke jumped right into the trailer so they didn’t have time to worry about him.
