We had a crew here yesterday building some new fences for us. We are adding a fairly large paddock in the back of the new barn, adjoining a small one that we put up last year. Also, we’re going to make another paddock along the fence that runs from the road east of the church barn to the big tree with the tire swing. In the “old” days (aka our younger days!) we would never think of hiring out to put up fence. But these guys got it all done in ONE day, which saved us a ton of time not only building but recovering from building!! And there’s a lot less grass to cut now too.
The weanlings continue to thrive and grow strong. Tonight, I plan on separating the foals at night so they can get used to being alone for a while. Show season is coming and they will need to go in the ring alone, so this will be a good start.
The farrier was here to trim Cookie, Frosty, Java and reset Roxy’s shoes. Everyone was very cooperative. Java, though, has this crazy thing he does with his mouth when he gets his feet done. He’s not being bratty, and Cindy T has a theory. You know how you get those oogly-wooglies when you hear fingernails on a chalkboard or happen to bite down on a piece of foil? When the farrier is filing Java’s feet, he sticks his head straight out and turns it to the side while he opens his mouth really wide and sort of chews, with his tongue circling around in his mouth! It is very funny and looks just like someone going, “Eeeee-yew!!”
