Saddlebrook Appaloosa Horses

• June 30, 2006 - Silly Horses

Horse-wise, the Saddlebrook crew is doing well. It’s been beautiful here most of the time and everyone enjoys being outside. We got a kick out of Roxy and Java, who now have free access to the front pasture with grass. You’d think they would be in there all day, but we saw them at the barn in the middle of the day looking around like they were hungry and wanting some hay. We walked along the fence to the gate and they followed, discovered that the gate was open and went in! “Oh, now we remember.” Silly horses.

There was a little excitement yesterday at The Real Aunt Cindy’s place, Stargazer Alpacas. One of their alpaca moms was showing signs of having her baby (cria) and decided that she couldn’t wait for Cindy to return from her trip to Wisconsin. Hubby John was there of course, and some of their ranch help, which was a very good thing, because the baby just didn’t want to come out. His little head was poking out and he was breathing and his little ears were flicking, but his legs were tucked inside mom and wouldn’t budge. Cindy was on the phone with John and also watching all of this live on their streaming cam! The vet got there very quickly and was able to help the baby out, so everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Mom and a beautiful tawny baby boy are doing just fine.

We met with a woman and her friend that might board a horse or two with us starting in September. She seemed pretty nice, despite the fact that she didn’t own any appaloosas.  Well maybe we can convince her, lol!
