Fanny or Spice (we’re guessing Fanny) broke down two more fence boards today. Along with riding, there should be some training courses for horses to learn not to break fences! At least they didn’t get out. We’ll have to find some extra strength boards and nails for their pasture.
Sarah and I went down to Peoria Illinois for the horse show last weekend. We decided not to show anyone as we had to leave early and want to get home quickly. The events would have been Sunday and it just didn’t work out schedule-wise. The horse show was very good, and the best part was Johnsonville donated all the brats and hotdogs so we ate very well for dinner. I don’t know why, but for some reason those brat patties seem to taste better then regular brats don’t they?
We checked Penny and Roxy last week. It was their four month checkup - can you believe it?! Dr. Schmidt likes to do the check at four months now because he is getting pretty good at sexing the foals at that time. We checked Cookie and Frosty also, when they were four months. So I now know what sex the foal will be for all of them other than Cookie, whose foal would not get to the right position for him. Should I spoil the surprise?
As you know, we’ve been feeding some hay to the outdoor horses to supplement the grass that is starting to dwindle down. We haven’t heard much from the cows on the subject, they seem quite content. Until one morning last week, that is. I went to get hay from the big barn for Fanny and Spice, and when I turned around to go back out the door, there was Delight just standing there in the in/out waiting. Normally, they are out in the pasture so intent on grazing they never come near the barn. As I headed out, I heard a huge bellow from Big D! It sounded something like “I smell HA-AAY!” Pretty soon you will, Delight.
