The hay is still growing in the field. The rainy weather kept it from getting cut so we have to wait a little while yet until the forecast is less wet. It’s a mild rain so the horses don’t mind being out. It probably feels good when the weather is warm.
Kari (our riding instructor) hit the dirt while riding Squeakers last night. Luckily she was not hurt, and said that Squeakers stumbled while she was getting her to canter and she lost her balance. So that’s good to know that Squeakers didn’t buck her off, and it’s even better that no one got hurt.
Lots of work around the farm this week. We got all the horse blankets and sheets clean thanks to Cindy washing them this week and finally got them labeled and put away in the giant zip lock bags. That way the mice won’t find a nice warm little house inside them this winter. We will have to see how long they will last. I brushhogged with Blue Bob, the new tractor, too. I will be pushing the manure to the hole a little more this week once things dry out a little.
Finally finished up the last of the big weeding last week. It was a lot easier with the good soaking of rain we had, the ground doesn’t hold on so tight to the roots. Everything looks great. Now how can we get it to stay that way?? We usually just throw the weeds over the fence into the nearest pasture. This time part of them went into the big pasture with the moms and cows. You would have thought that we were throwing candy to kids the way Delight and Reverse came running over to see what kind of special treat it was. They didn’t really eat anything, but smelled everything and kept watching with great interest to see what would come over next. This has to fall under the heading, “What Cows Do For Fun!”
