Zippy is just fine, back to his usual perky self the very next day. There was hardly any “hooof” in his stall because the vet advised not to feed him for a day, and even then no grain yet. We gradually built him back up to a scoop twice a day with his hay. But his stall was very wet and his back end was covered with oil, so we know that everything that went in came back out!
We started to separate the weanlings. With Romeo going to his new home soon we don’t want that separation anxiety to happen on the day he leaves. That would be just too hard on Romeo for the long ride and he will be anxious enough. He and Phoebe called for each other but we tried to keep them distracted. Romeo was in the arena with hay and “toys,” and Phoebe had Penny across the way for a little company. It’s actually a lot harder on us than it is on them!
The vet came out to look at Penny and did a chiropractic adjustment on her hips. We didn’t ride her for a couple weeks and it seems that she’s been walking kind of stiffly. Who knows what causes it but the adjustment really seemed to help. All the horses and other animals are doing fine.
Luke was in the arena and it shocked us to look out of the office window when he is standing right there. He is SOOO tall. Luke almost takes up the entire window. You can almost see daylight between the tops of his front legs and his barrel! He is such a nice boy too, just hanging out near the window for company. In few more days we will start pairing him up with another horse or two. When one of our horses comes back from a big show like that we try to keep them somewhat separate from other horses and totally separate from our pregnant moms until we are sure they are not going to come down with a nasty bug they picked up on the road.
