Penny was acting a little funny yesterday, just like she wasn’t feeling very well. She was eating and doing everything else normally, but her head was down and her eyes kind of half-closed. She also kept wanting to lean into you or against the stall wall. It may be nothing, but we had the vet come out anyway. She couldn’t really pinpoint anything, so Bill took Penny to the clinic so they can get a better look and run some tests. Our biggest concern, of course, is that Penny has had so many problems with pregnancies so we want to be extra cautious. The latest is that her temp and blood tests are normal, and Dr. Andy checked the foal this morning and everything looks great there. They agree that something isn’t right but they will have to do more tests to find out just what is making Penny feel bad.
The good new horse wise is that Luke is doing well. Sarah’s friend spent some time riding him last night. She is also a 9 year old and they got along well together. Sarah wants to ride him next time. Sarah’s friend is more controlled then Sarah. Once Sarah gets going she like to go, and sometimes gets a little out of control, which isn’t so good if you don’t know the horse that well. lol We are working on Sarah and Kari thinks the kids riding will do him good as it is very low stress.
We are going to have to replace the gate on the fence next to the lower part of the big red barn. It’s not a very sturdy gate to begin with, but we noticed lately that the bars are being bent in the middle, like someone is pulling them apart. Of course, we assumed it was Fanny, since she is so hard on fences and has a big…well, uh….fanny. But today we learned that it’s not Fanny’s fault this time. We caught sight of Reverse with his head completely through the opening in the gate, reaching down on the other side to get at the loose hay on the ground! He is such a big boy and it wouldn’t take much for him to break it open. Then we’d need Little Boy Blue to come blow his horn!! Bill picked up a new, heavy-duty gate today and will replace it this week.
We had some people come out to see Matilda and they seemed to really like her. They were visiting Wisconsin from New Mexico and were very nice. They have an appaloosa stallion and are looking for a mare they can breed in a couple of years. Matilda is really well bred and they just love her dun coloring. She behaved like a champ as usual. They are going to talk it over and let us know.
