Saddlebrook Appaloosa Horses

• March 7, 2007 - Here comes the Chief

And the winner is…. ZMI Executive Material! Frosty’s colt finally has his name. His barn name will be Chief, and we think it suits him just right. Congrats to Buddy CindyWa for coming up with this one.

We turned the moms and babies out together for the first time. They went out to the bee pasture for a couple of hours and everyone got along pretty well. Erika made sure there was plenty of hay spread out all over so the moms would have a distraction. We thought that Sport would be the more assertive, checking out little Chief, but it was really the other way around. Chief is quite fearless and went right over to Sport to ask him to play. Sport wasn’t so sure, so Chief moved on to sprinting around and teaching himself how to roll in the snow!

We got a call from Sandy’s owner.  They absolutely love her and they kept saying how talented she was.  It is so funny because when she was here we never even rode her, she was a broodmare.  And now at her new home she is a real reiner.  She just foaled a nice colored colt by a local reining stallion and they just called to let us know.  I hope we can get some pictures. Matilda, her almost two-year old filly, is still here at Saddlebrook. She has really gotten tall over the winter. It’s amazing to see those little ones grow up and become big horses.

There was some excitement in the bee pasture yesterday. It was snowing all afternoon and Erika had just brought in Cookie and Sport, and was just bringing in Frosty and Chief when three Canadian geese came in for a landing right on the hay that was left in the pasture. They made quite a noisy entrance with all their honking, which really got the horses’ attention. As soon as they landed the geese all sat their putts right down - they must have been tired from flying through the snow. Once they were rested, they had a little snack of the hay. Rico, Flare, (Erika’s horses) Luke and Haley (boarder) were all watching with great interest. Flare looked ready to go and play with them!
