Saddlebrook Appaloosa Horses

• May 24, 2007 - It's a grass

Luke is doing well at Andy and Elizabeth's.  He seems happy in his work and we are sizing up the possibility of showing him at the early shows, or waiting till later this summer.   It may boil down to kid-readiness rather than horse-readiness, as the kids are so busy we are not getting enough practice time in. Cash is another show prospect for the kids although we are going slowly with him.  He is fully settled in here and looks beautiful.

In other horse news, the vet tells us that Fanny's embryo may likely absorb, sad to say.  It appears to be smaller than it should at this point, and attached in a bad spot.  That won't give Fanny any cause for concern, she really won't be aware and there are no medical risks this early on.  But we will not breed her again this year if it does happen.

Fanny and Java are out on grass full time now in the big pasture.  They will be nice and fat in no time. We also started Cash out on grass today so eventually he can join them.  After Cash is well on his way to getting grass full time we will start the process with Cookie, Frosty and their foals.

Delight and Reverse managed to get out and had themselves a little stroll in the moon light the other night! Delight went right back in, but Reverse was not so willing.  Lucky for us we have lots of ropes around, and two people who know how to use them.  So we roped him and then dallied him around a fence post, then we roped him again and dallied him around another until we had walked him down the fence line to the barn a couple fence posts at a time.  No one was the worse for wear!
